What is a step-up SIP?
A step-up (or top-up) SIP increases your monthly investment every year, usually in line with your salary hikes. Because the extra money also compounds, the final amount grows much faster than with a flat SIP.
Example: ₹10,000 a month for 15 years at 12% grows to about ₹50 lakh. Stepping it up by 10% every year grows it to about ₹87 lakh, over ₹36 lakh more.
How it is calculated
The calculator simulates every month: each instalment earns 12% ÷ 12 = 1% a month, and at the start of each new year the instalment rises by your step-up (percentage or fixed rupees), up to any cap you set.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I step up my SIP?
Many investors match their expected salary increase, often 5% to 10% a year. Even a 5% yearly step-up makes a large difference over 15–20 years.
Do mutual funds offer automatic step-up?
Yes. Most fund houses and investment apps let you set a yearly top-up by amount or percentage when starting the SIP.
What is the cap?
The maximum monthly SIP you want to reach. Once the step-ups hit the cap, the SIP stays at that amount.
