About the Indian rupee (INR)
The Indian rupee (₹) is the currency of India, issued by the Reserve Bank of India. Its exchange rate floats, but the RBI buys and sells dollars to smooth sharp moves.
Many Indians working in the Gulf send money home in KWD. Compare the rupees each provider actually credits after its fees and margin with the mid-market rate shown here.

How the currency converter works
The converter uses mid-market exchange rates, the midpoint between buying and selling prices on global currency markets. Rates for 160+ currencies are fetched from ExchangeRate-API and refreshed every day. The rate history chart uses reference rates from the European Central Bank, through the Frankfurter service, for the roughly 30 major currencies the ECB publishes.
To convert, the amount is multiplied by the cross rate: Amount in B = Amount in A × (rate of B ÷ rate of A), with both rates measured against the US dollar.
Why your bank gives a different rate
Banks, card networks, forex counters and money-transfer apps add a margin to the mid-market rate. This is often 1–3% for remittances, 2–3.5% for card payments abroad and 4–6% at airport counters. Some also charge a flat fee. To compare offers, convert your amount here, then check how much less the provider actually delivers.
- Sending money to India: compare the rupees received per dollar, dirham or riyal after fees, not just the advertised rate.
- Paying abroad by card: Indian cards usually add a foreign currency mark-up of 1.5–3.5% plus 18% GST on that mark-up. International payments also attract TCS under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) above the yearly threshold.
- Dynamic currency conversion: when a foreign shop or ATM offers to charge you in rupees, it usually uses a worse rate. Choose the local currency instead.
Frequently asked questions

Once a day. The time of the last update is shown under the result. Rates are for information only and are not live trading prices.
What is the mid-market rate?
The midpoint between the buy and sell prices of two currencies on global markets. It is the fairest reference rate, but banks and exchange services add a margin to it.
Which currencies are supported?
More than 160 currencies, including INR, USD, EUR, GBP, AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, SGD, CAD, AUD, JPY and CNY. Rate history charts are available for currencies published by the European Central Bank.
Does the converter work offline?
It saves the latest rates on your device, so if you are offline it uses the last downloaded rates and shows their date.
