How to increase a number by a percentage
New value = Original × (1 + Percentage ÷ 100)
Example: increase ₹50,000 by 12% → 50,000 × 1.12 = ₹56,000. The increase itself is 50,000 × 12 ÷ 100 = ₹6,000.
How to find the percentage increase
Percentage increase = (New − Old) ÷ Old × 100
Example: a price rising from ₹800 to ₹1,000 is (1,000 − 800) ÷ 800 × 100 = 25%.
| Original | Increase | New value |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 10% | 110 |
| 1,000 | 18% | 1,180 |
| 25,000 | 8% | 27,000 |
| 40,000 | 15% | 46,000 |
