Find and Replace Text

Find and replace words or phrases in any text, with options for case, whole words and regular expressions. Up to 10 find-and-replace pairs run in order, and every replacement is counted.

Tips

  • Several replacements at once: enter one rule per line in the form find => replace, for example Rs. => ₹ and colour => color.
  • Whole words: replacing “cat” will not touch “category”.
  • Regular expressions: use patterns such as \d{10} (any 10-digit number) and refer to groups with $1, $2 in the replacement. Try your pattern first in the Regex Tester.
  • Special characters: type \n in the replacement for a new line and \t for a tab.

Frequently asked questions

How do I replace line breaks?

Turn on “Regular expression”, then find \n and replace it with what you want, for example a comma. The Remove Line Breaks tool also does this with more options.

Is the replacement case-sensitive?

Only if you tick “Match case”. Otherwise “India”, “india” and “INDIA” are all matched.
