Remove Extra Spaces

Clean up messy text: collapse double spaces, trim each line, remove tabs and empty lines, and strip invisible characters such as non-breaking and zero-width spaces that cause problems in forms, Excel and code.

What gets cleaned

  • Multiple spaces become a single space.
  • Leading and trailing spaces on every line are removed.
  • Tabs become spaces.
  • Empty lines are removed, or reduced to one.
  • Invisible characters: non-breaking spaces (common in text copied from websites and Word) become normal spaces, and zero-width characters (U+200B, U+FEFF) are deleted. These often break Excel lookups, passwords and data imports.

Why does my VLOOKUP fail even though the text looks the same?

Usually because of a hidden non-breaking space or a trailing space. Paste the values here with “Invisible characters” ticked, then paste them back.

Can I remove all spaces?

Yes. Tick “Remove all spaces” to delete every space, for example to clean up phone, card or account numbers.
